Chameleons

Artist: Andela Kopanja, Serbia
Description:

The digital print Chameleons is part of a series derived from photographs and canvas paintings, digitally manipulated using Adobe Photoshop. Through these interventions, the artist sought to create an atmosphere that evokes the otherworldly, an altered natural environment, and the phenomenon of camouflage, an ability that is not only a survival mechanism for chameleons but also a defining characteristic of modern humans.

Inspired by the chameleon's ability to change color to adapt to its surroundings, as well as the intensity of nightlife in clubs, the work explores social mechanisms of adaptation, concealment, and the question of authenticity. Young people in the Adriatic-Ionian region often face a dilemma - whether to stay and adapt to the existing system or leave in search of better opportunities. In both cases, it is a constant balancing act between the struggle for personal identity and the need to conform to external circumstances.
